Novelist

Yesterday, I had the sweetest little girl ask me... "Are you a novelist? I've never heard of you before." I couldn't help but smile. Then, I got to thinking. Am I?
Yes, I finally finished one of the many books that I have started over the years, and yes, I published it on Kindle and Nook. People even bought it, and not just my friends. I am elated!
A few months ago, I was a nurse working part-time and a stay at home mom. Well, I guess I am still those things and will be for quite a while unless Amanda Hocking style magic happens over at Kindle and Nook. I guess I never really thought of myself as an "author" or a "novelist." A writer, yeah. I write, that's for sure. But when do you consider yourself an author? After you have completed something that you would consider good enough to share with the world? After you get picked up by an actual publishing company? After you sell 50, 100, or 1000 books? I don't know the answer or if there even is one. But I am starting to feel like an author. People have read my stuff! They even liked it!
Yeah, so I went self-pub. I have never even thought about sending out a query letter. Will it be a mistake? Only time will tell I guess. Do I consider myself a novelist? Yeah, I think that I do. Hopefully, someday soon, little girls will have heard of me. :)

  1. I relate to much of your blog topics...also a writer self published "novelist", now looking into Nook not just Kindle (thx!) and am a part time nurse. I also, while trying to do all the right things, find myself keeping my blog on the personal side. I just go with what comes out, what feels right. So keep up the direction you are going, you are doing great and I am enjoying reading through. At least that's the opinion of this self pub novelist also enjoying the ride while waiting for fame to hit...PS...Found you on a tweet. ;-)
